My name is Kathleen, and I am here to help.

I taught in the U.S. public school system for 14 years, twelve of those years in grades 1 & 2. Each year, I spent abundant time trying to figure out why a handful of my students were not making reading progress despite their hard work. That was when I decided to seek out answers and found my passion along the journey.

While teaching online during the pandemic, I witnessed firsthand families realizing that their students were not keeping up with their peers in reading. This was the first time families had daily, real time access to grade-level learning expectations for their student. It was eyeopening for many.

I am here to share my knowledge and support students and their families. I am a certified Orton-Gillingham teacher who uses multimodal reading strategies to help struggling readers and/or those diagnosed with dyslexia.

I am passionate about helping all readers feel successful. You see, reading is not a skill we are born with, but we have to learn. I believe it is my calling to educate others on how to teach students to read. Yes, some are natural readers and pick it up quickly. Others do not and require direct, explicit instruction. Early intervention is critical.

The ability to read is said to have a major impact on a child’s future. Please join me in making sure all students have a bright future through learning to read.

Teacher Consultation

I offer consultations for educators seeking to increase their knowledge of structured literacy. If you are like me, you did not learn how to teach reading in your teacher prep program. After years of structure literacy and dyslexia training, I am here to share what I have learned so you can gain this knowledge and implement it in your classrooms.

Parent/Family Consultation

I am passionate about all students becoming confident, successful readers. As an elementary school teacher, I have seen first hand what it is like to see a child grow in confidence as they become a skilled reader.

Most families don’t know their child is “behind in reading” until it is too late. Parents need and deserve to know where their child is at in reading development, and ways they can support them along their reading journey. Now more than ever. It is critical that ALL children learn to read. I believe it takes a partnership, between parents and educators, to help students learn to read. I am here to help support readers AND their families along the reading journey. Let’s set up a time to connect!
